You all know by now that I eat a lot of watermelon. I don’t have watermelon in my fridge ALL the time, but it’s there a lot (I have a chunk in there now that won’t be there later tonight). Some people eat watermelon at least once a week, others are once a month fans, and others, well, they’re lucky to get a slice once or twice a year. (How do you live like that?!)
Which brings me to my August poll question: When’s the last time you ate watermelon? Feel free to weigh in with your answer on the right. For me, I only have to look at my watch to figure that one out.
By the way, Happy National Watermelon Day! According to some sources, today is the best day of the year (if you’re a watermelon lover).
UP NEXT: A high tech watermelon prize

This morning with my daugter Ashley with our breakfast. We just love watermelon.
Good to hear, Jeannine. You even beat me, and I thought I was the biggest watermelon fan in the world. I’m ashamed to admit that it’s been about four days since I’ve had watermelon. I’m actually starting to have withdrawals!
Just yesterday I got the most yummy looking recipe for “Mouth-watering watermelon bars”. The recipe came from *rightathome.com/view”. I just can’t wait to try it. If you have the recipe and try it first, let me know if it is as good as it looks.
You’ll probably beat me to it, because I haven’t been as adventurous with my cooking lately as I have in the past. Please share the results with us here on What About Watermelon when you try it! If you’d like to take a photo of the finished product and email it to us using the “Ask the Watermelon Experts” link on the right, feel free… I’ll post it here on the blog.
Let’s see, I suppose about 10 minutes ago.
I live in Iowa and LOVE watermelon. I have a sugar addiction and this summer ate about half a watermelon a day and lost 20 pounds, because I have found it to be THE best substitute for the processed sugar I crave. The problem is I can’t get it for most of the year, and what tiny ones the grocery stores do have cost a fortune. Though I eat other fruit as well, nothing helps me stay off the junk sugar like watermelon, and I would like to find a way to get it (economically) all year long. Any suggestions?
This is the first year we have had success with watermelons, we actually got more that the racoons did and I enjoyed them everyday for the past 6 weeks. Hope everyone loves them the same way I do.
Thanks for the recipes can’t wait to try the watermelon pie. Going to dinner with friends and will take one.
