THE WATERMELON RACING TEAM

The good folks at the National Watermelon Promotion Board (who also host this blog) have a lot to cheer about these days. That’s because they’re the proud sponsors of up-and-coming racing star Ross Chastain and his #36 car.

Ross races on the FASCAR circuit (Florida Association of Stock Car Auto Racing) and earlier this season won his first race in “the watermelon car.” What’s amazing is that Ross is just 17 years old (I didn’t even start driving until I was 17) and he has been racing full time since he was 13! He has amassed over 35 feature wins at Orlando Speedworld, New Smyrna Speedway, Punta Gorda Speedway and Ocala Speedway.

The race he won below was at Florida’s New Smyrna Speedway, and he beat a field of 14 other drivers, many of whom were twice his age! In between races, the watermelon car travels in a very cool-looking watermelon trailer.

You can learn more about Ross on his racing website. I’ll keep you posted on any future wins by Ross and the watermelon racing team and I may even feature an interview with Ross here on What About Watermelon in the near future. Stay tuned!

Way to go Ross. Keep winning in the FASCAR circuit. Go watermelons.

Heck yeah! Imagine living that life. Racing cars and (I’m guessing) lots of free watermelon. Throw in some free Mets season tickets and I’d be in heaven.

Hi. I have seen the #36 car race 3 times in New Smyrna.Went to try and talk with him at the July 10th race and he wasnt there, we had heard he was racing in orlando or Charlotte county.Would like to get a schedule of when and where he will be racing next. I have been very impressed with his driving. He handles the car smoothly and doesnt seem to just ram his way to the front. and also handles his self well in the post race interviews. This younge man seems to be on the write track.Wanted to know if he would be racing in Ga or NC.I would also like to add that i am in the Agriculture bus. and would like to co-sponsor a few races if thats possible. i have been to his website but the information was very limited. Do you have another way to contact him? Thanks,Pat

  4. The Watermelon Guy says:

I’ll look into that, Pat, and get right back to you.
