VIDEO: PICKING THE WORLD’S LARGEST WATERMELON

Last week, I talked about miniature watermelons (those weighing less than 10 pounds). This week, we’re shifting gears to giant watermelons, and no one knows more about giant watermelons than Lloyd Bright.

In 1979, the Bright family grew a then world record 200-pound watermelon on their farm in Hope, Arkansas. Six years later, they produced a behemoth weighing in at 260 pounds! Then, on September 3, 2005, the Brights picked the biggest of them all, a 268.8-pound monster that was officially recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records.

Below is a video of the world record holder being picked. The first giant watermelon in this video was dropped (try not to cry like I did when it happens), but the second was picked without incident.
