FEATURED PHOTO: A ROADSIDE TREAT

As I’ve mentioned before, I love old pictures, even if they’re pictures of complete strangers. I found this photo of a happy foursome enjoying some watermelon. The owner of the photo says it was taken in 1930 somewhere outside St. Paul (Minnesota, I’m assuming).

Back then, it was apparently a common practice to pull over to the side of the road to eat watermelon and pose for pictures. Or maybe they’ve stopped their vehicle at a roadside fruit stand and decided to polish off their purchase right then and there instead of waiting until they get home.

Whatever the scenario, Dad and the kids seem to be enjoying their slices. The woman in the back seat chose to partake in the comfort of the family car. It was a wise decision. That road looks like it could kick up a lot of dust, and dust and watermelon don’t mix.
