In the past here on What About Watermelon, we\u2019ve talked about men who smash watermelon with sledgehammers<\/a>, people who use them as an oversized golf ball<\/span>, and what happens to them if you put them in the microwave<\/a>. I\u2019m generally not a fan of senseless violence against watermelon, but in the name of science (and good clean fun), I\u2019ll allow it.<\/p>\n

Today\u2019s experiment pits watermelon again rubber bands. Specifically, how many rubber bands can be wrapped around a watermelon before it succumbs to the pressure and collapses in upon itself. The guys in the video below put that question to the test, and the watermelon stood up to a surprising number of rubber bands before giving way in explosive fashion.<\/p>\n

After watching this test of fruit strength, I was left wondering how other fruits would fare under the same circumstances. To be honest, I\u2019m not sure too many other contenders \u2013 if any \u2013 would have performed as well as the rough and rugged watermelon. The banana? Forget about it. The orange? Nope. The pineapple? Actually, the pineapple might give the watermelon a run for its money. Now I\u2019ll just have to find a few hundred rubber bands and a whole pineapple to put to the test.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
