That\u2019s ice cream, not sherbet. There\u2019s a difference, of course. Ice cream is made with milk and cream (hence the name), while sherbet is mainly fruit juice, with only a little milk.<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t dislike sherbet, mind you, it\u2019s just not my number one choice when I\u2019m in the mood for a frosty treat. It also doesn\u2019t help that I\u2019ve been mispronouncing it for the first 35 years of my life. Until just a few years ago, I also called it \u201csher-bert\u201d (with a second \u201cr\u201d). It\u2019s actually \u201csher-bit.\u201d Oh well.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve never made ice cream or \u201csher-bit\u201d at home \u2013 until now. I found this recipe for Creamy Watermelon Sherbet on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.watermelon.org\/Recipes\/Default.aspx\">National Watermelon Promotion Board website<\/a> and it sounded relatively simple, so I gave it shot. Wouldn\u2019t you know it, it actually turned out pretty good! That\u2019s a photo of my homemade treat below.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CREAMY WATERMELON SHERBET<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>INGREDIENTS<\/p>\n<p>5 cups watermelon puree (about one large watermelon)<br \/>\n1 \u00bd tablespoons unflavored gelatin<br \/>\n1 \u00bd cups sugar<br \/>\n\u00bc teaspoon ground nutmeg<br \/>\n1 \u00bd cups milk<br \/>\n1 \u00bd teaspoons fresh lime juice<\/p>\n<p>INSTRUCTIONS<\/p>\n<p>Soften gelatin in \u00bd cup of the watermelon puree. Let stand 5 minutes at room temperature and then heat gently to dissolve gelatin. Cool slightly. Add remaining watermelon puree, sugar, nutmeg, lemon juice and milk to gelatin mixture.
