Give me a bin of those things, and I could build pretty much anything. Houses, cars, spaceships, you name it. Now that my daughter is three (soon to be four), she\u2019ll be entering the \u201cLego phase,\u201d and I\u2019m really looking forward to helping her create all sorts of things, too.<\/p>\n<p>Until she\u2019s ready to tackle the Legos, we\u2019ll have to settle for carving Legos out of watermelon. And considering that she\u2019ll probably try to eat a few of the real ones (I\u2019m pretty sure I did), it\u2019s probably a good thing that we\u2019re starting out with some the edible version.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MATERIALS NEEDED<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1 red seedless watermelon<br \/>\n1 yellow seedless watermelon (optional)<br \/>\nkitchen knife<br \/>\nCutting board<br \/>\nRound cookie cutters<br \/>\nToothpicks (optional)<br \/>\nLego blocks and figures for decorating<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4559\" src=\"https:\/\/www.whataboutwatermelon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pic11.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 527px) 100vw, 527px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.whataboutwatermelon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pic11-300x222.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.whataboutwatermelon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pic11.jpg 527w\" alt=\"pic\" width=\"527\" height=\"391\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You can use red seedless watermelon and yellow seedless watermelon to create two Lego blocks, but I only created a red one. As always, before the knife even touches the rind, be sure to give your watermelon a good cleaning.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4560\" src=\"https:\/\/www.whataboutwatermelon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pic12.jpg\" alt=\"pic\" width=\"527\" height=\"397\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Cut the rind off the watermelon to create a large rectangular block of watermelon flesh. Be sure to set aside at least one slice of watermelon \u2013 about \u00be of an inch thick \u2013 to create the four little Lego top circles.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4561\" src=\"https:\/\/www.whataboutwatermelon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/pic13.jpg\" alt=\"pic\" width=\"527\" height=\"393\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Attach the top circles to the Lego base using toothpicks. \u00a0That\u2019s it! Feel free to decorate your watermelon Lego with real Legos or other toys.
