\"pic\"It\u2019s that time of the year. Time to sharpen your knives, break out the big cutting board, and slice up some watermelon. No, I\u2019m not talking about cutting up some watermelon for a picnic (although you should do that, too) \u2014 I\u2019m talking about the Fifth Annual Watermelon Carving Contest.<\/p>\n

It\u2019ll be pretty similar to last year\u2019s contest, which means lots of great prizes and fun categories. And just like last year, the first 25 entrants will AUTOMATICALLY receive a Dexas watermelon cutting board<\/a> as a bonus participation prize, so get your carvings in to claim your cutting board!<\/p>\n

HOW TO ENTER<\/strong><\/h2>\n

All you need to do is email a picture of your carving AND a picture of you with your carving (the picture of you with the carving is important) to us before August 4. Check out the carving contest page<\/a> for more details and instructions.<\/p>\n

And yes, you can enter more than one carving. Some folks last year entered a carving in each category, or more than one carving in some categories. (Note: For the bonus participation prize, there\u2019s a limit of one watermelon cutting board per person.)<\/p>\n

CARVING CATEGORIES<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Here are the five categories in this year\u2019s contest. For creative inspiration, check out the carvings page<\/a> of the National Watermelon Promotion Board site. And yes, you can complete and enter one or more of the carvings you see on that page<\/p>\n

1. Most Elegant<\/strong> \u2013 Culinary professionals and highly skilled food artists can knock our socks off. Show us how the experts do it.<\/p>\n

2. Best Fruit Basket Carving<\/strong> \u2013 A watermelon really can look like two bowls glued together at the rim. Cut it in half, hollow it out and add some flair, and you\u2019ve got a fruit basket!<\/p>\n

3. Funniest Carving<\/strong> \u2013 We\u2019ve all seen hilarious takes on food, so show us your humor! Comical staging counts, so make us LOL!<\/p>\n

4. Best Animal<\/strong> \u2013 People love watermelon. Animals love watermelon. People love animals. Show us your best animal made from a watermelon!<\/p>\n

5. Star-Spangled Watermelon<\/strong> \u2013 Show us your most patriotic carving to help celebrate the National Watermelon Promotion Board\u2019s summer-long Star-Spangled Watermelon promotion<\/a>. (Check out the website<\/a> for red, white, and blue carving ideas!)<\/p>\n

PRIZES<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Each category will feature a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prize. Prizes in each category include: $150 Amazon.com gift card for 1st place, $100 Amazon.com gift card for 2nd place, and $50 Amazon.com gift card for 3rd place. When all the winners have been chosen, we\u2019ll post them here on the blog in August and let the fans choose the \u201cPeople\u2019s Choice\u201d winner, which will receive a $500 Amazon.com gift card!<\/p>\n
