National Watermelon Month is just over two weeks away, which means it\u2019s time to kick off our Sixth Annual Watermelon Carving Contest. This year\u2019s contest will be similar to the 2014 contest, but with a few key differences:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. ENTERING IS SIMPLER<\/strong> \u2013 The National Watermelon Promotion Board has created a handy webpage<\/span><\/u> that allows you to easily upload photos and entry information.<\/li>\n
  2. MORE PRIZES<\/strong> \u2013 Each category will be separated into a group for beginners and a group for experienced carvers. Each sub-category of competitors will feature a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prize.<\/li>\n
  3. A \u201cJUDGE\u2019S CHOICE\u201d AWARD<\/strong> \u2013 The fans have voted on a \u201cPeople\u2019s Choice\u201d award in the past (and will again this year), but we\u2019ve added a \u201cJudge\u2019s Choice\u201d award, too.<\/li>\n
  4. JUDGING CRITERIA<\/strong> \u2013 To help guide your carvings and let you know how each carving will be judged, we\u2019ve created a judging criteria sheet, which can be downloaded here<\/span><\/u>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    HOW TO ENTER<\/strong><\/p>\n

    The deadline for entries is August 4th<\/sup>. Like I mentioned above, the new web page<\/span><\/u> makes entering this year\u2019s carving contest easier than ever before. You\u2019ll need at least two photos of your carving \u2013 one photo of your carving, and one photo with you holding or standing next to your carving.<\/p>\n

    As always, you can enter more than one carving. In fact, the judges will award extra credit for each additional carving you submit. You can get credit for up to five additional carvings, but feel free to enter as many carvings as you\u2019d like.<\/p>\n

    CATEGORIES<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Below are the five categories in this year\u2019s contest. Feel free to check out the carvings on the National Watermelon Promotion Board website<\/a> for inspiration.<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Most Elegant Carving<\/li>\n
    2. Best Fruit Basket Carving<\/li>\n
    3. Funniest Carving<\/li>\n
    4. Best Animal Carving<\/li>\n
    5. Star-Spangled Carving (Show us your most patriotic carving!)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      PRIZES<\/strong><\/p>\n

      Each category will be divided into \u201cBeginner\u201d and \u201cExperienced\u201d groups, with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes for each group. Prizes include a $150 Amazon.com gift card for 1st place, a $100 Amazon.com gift card for 2nd place, and a $50 Amazon.com gift card for 3rd place.<\/p>\n

      The first 25 entrants will AUTOMATICALLY receive a Dexas watermelon cutting board as a bonus participation prize. (Limit one cutting board per person.)<\/p>\n

      After the August 4th deadline, we\u2019ll post EVERY entry on the contest Web page and let the fans choose the \u201cPeople\u2019s Choice\u201d winner, who\u00a0will receive a $500 Amazon.com gift card. While the fans are picking their People\u2019s Choice, the judges will be busy reviewing all carvings in order to pick the \u201cJudges\u2019 Choice\u201d winner, who\u00a0will also receive a $500 Amazon.com gift card.<\/p>\n
