As far as hot months go, August feels like the hottest on the calendar. I\u2019m looking out the window, and everything looks so green and inviting, but once you open the door, the heat hits you like a brick wall. I don\u2019t like the cold, but I definitely don\u2019t like the extreme heat that we\u2019ve been having this year.<\/p>\n

Actually, that\u2019s not totally true. I actually like the heat because I like to enjoy all the usual things when it\u2019s hot, like swimming pools, ice cream, watermelon and sorbet.<\/p>\n

WATERMELON LAVENDER SORBET\"22\"<\/p>\n

INGREDIENTS<\/p>\n

4 \u00bd cups pureed watermelon pulp (divided)<\/p>\n

\u00bd cup sugar (or part Splenda)<\/p>\n

1 tablespoon lavender flowers\/leaves (culinary type)<\/p>\n

1\/8 teaspoon salt (or to taste)<\/p>\n

2 tablespoons lemon juice<\/p>\n

2 tablespoons vodka (watermelon- or citrus-flavored) (NOTE: This helps prevent the sorbet from freezing too solidly.)<\/p>\n

INSTRUCTIONS<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, add \u00bd cup watermelon pulp, sugar, lavender and salt. Bring to a slow boil, then simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and cover for 10 minutes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    1. Place strainer over a large bowl and pour syrup mixture through, straining out lavender flowers. Add remaining 4 cups watermelon, lemon juice and vodka. Stir until blended.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      1. Pour into container, cover, place in freezer. When semi-solid, mash up sorbet with fork and freeze again. When frozen, place sorbet mixture into a blender or food processor, and process until smooth. Scoop desired amount into a small bowl or parfait dish, garnish with a small wedge of watermelon and a lavender sprig.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
