Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, and each year I do something that combines my love of watermelon and the age-old Halloween tradition of carving. Last year, my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whataboutwatermelon.com\/index.php\/2013\/10\/jack-o-melon-says-happy-halloween\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">jack-o-melon<\/a> was a success, and I was surprised at how easy it was to carve.\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-6065 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.whataboutwatermelon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/11.png\" alt=\"1\" width=\"270\" height=\"359\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As it turns out, watermelons are actually a little more challenging to carve than pumpkins. While they are easier to slice, pumpkins are hollower than watermelons, which explains why you see more pumpkins carved than watermelons.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m always up for a good challenge, especially since I can eat whatever I dig out from the watermelon! This month on the <span class=\"removed_link\" title=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/WatermelonBoard\">National Watermelon Promotion Board\u2019s Facebook page<\/span>, we want to see your spookiest Halloween watermelon carving! Send us a photo of your scary watermelon carving \u2013 on Facebook OR here on the blog \u2013 and we\u2019ll choose one carving at random to win a $25 gift card. To enter, email a photo of your carving to contests@watermelon.org.<\/p>\n<p>For inspiration, check out this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.watermelon.org\/Carvings\/Frankenstein\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Frankenstein<\/a> carving that I\u2019m going to make this year for my trick-or-treaters.
