Below is a listing of some of the larger festivals, but if I\u2019m missing any (and I\u2019m sure I am), leave a comment and I\u2019ll add it ASAP.<\/p>\n<p>This is only a very short list of all the watermelon festivals out there. For a much longer list, visit the National Watermelon Promotion Board website. I should also point out that the highlights listed below for each festival are only the watermelon-related highlights. Most of these festivals have other things going on, like live music, craft fairs and other fun and games for the whole family.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.melonfest.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">HAMPTON COUNTY WATERMELON FESTIVAL (June 19-27)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>LOCATION: Hampton, South Carolina<br \/>\nHIGHLIGHTS: Melon Miss &amp; Master Pageant, watermelon eating contest, watermelon growing contest, parade<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.watermelonthump.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LULING WATERMELON THUMP (June 24-27)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>LOCATION: Luling, Texas<br \/>\nHIGHLIGHTS: Watermelon contest, coronation of watermelon queen, watermelon eating contest, champion watermelon auction, world championship watermelon seed spitting contest<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.panhandlewatermelonfestival.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PANHANDLE WATERMELON FESTIVAL (June 25-26)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>LOCATION: Shipley, Florida<br \/>\nHIGHLIGHTS: Watermelon beauty pageant (not sure whether\u00a0 this one\u00a0 is for people or watermelons), big watermelon contest and auction, watermelon seed spitting contest<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.beauregardwatermelonfestival.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BEAUREGARD WATERMELON FESTIVAL (June 25-27)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>LOCATION: DeRidder, Louisiana<\/p>\n<p>HIGHLIGHTS: \u201cCutting of the Melon\u201d kick-off event, celebrity seed spitting contest<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pagelandwatermelonfestival.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PAGELAND WATERMELON FESTIVAL (July 16-17)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>LOCATION: Pageland, South Carolina<br \/>\nHIGHLIGHTS: Watermelon seed spitting contest, watermelon eating contest (right)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mswatermelonfestival.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MISSISSIPPI WATERMELON FESTIVAL (July 23-24)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>LOCATION: Mize, Mississippi<br \/>\nHIGHLIGHTS: Watermelon seed spitting contest, watermelon eating contest, greased watermelon race (I\u2019m praying that someone captures this event on video)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lawatermelonfestival.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LOUISIANA WATERMELON FESTIVAL (July 29-31)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>LOCATION: Farmerville, Louisiana<br \/>\nHIGHLIGHTS: watermelon seed spitting contest, largest watermelon contest, watermelon decorating, watermelon hunt, watermelon auction, watermelon quality and tasting competition, arm wrestling contest (I know the last event isn\u2019t watermelon-related, but an arm wrestling contest is pretty cool, so I gave it a mention)<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"removed_link\" title=\"http:\/\/www.hopechamberofcommerce.com\/festival_info.htm\">HOPE WATERMELON FESTIVAL (August 12-14)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>LOCATION: Hope, Arkansas<br \/>\nHIGHLIGHTS: Watermelon Olympics (with a watermelon toss, among other events), a seed spitting contest, \u201cWatermelon Idol\u201d talent show, watermelon eating contest.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last year I posted a roundup of upcoming watermelon festivals, and it seemed to come in handy for a lot of readers, so I\u2019m doing it again this year.
