That\u2019s the first time I ever heard of that. Is it true?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whataboutwatermelon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/photo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1478\" title=\"photo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.whataboutwatermelon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/photo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"317\" height=\"423\" \/><\/a>Wow. That\u2019s the first time I, too, have heard that extremely cautionary advice. Based on personal experience (many instances of eating watermelon and drinking beer), I can attest that I\u2019ve never experienced any ill effects from combining these two delicious barbeque staples. Then again, I could have some sort of watermelon\/beer immunity, so I took to the Internet and asked a few knowledgeable friends to see if there was any truth to the rumor.<\/p>\n<p>It turns out, you\u2019re not the only one with questions about combining beer and watermelon. I was able to find a few more inquiries (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kgbanswers.com\/is-it-true-that-if-you-drink-beer-and-eat-watermelon-it-can-have-bad-side-effects-is-that-true-for-all-fruit-and-alcohol\/4117127\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/answers.yahoo.com\/question\/index?qid=20090906103357AAlxL61\">here<\/a>) from concerned watermelon and beer lovers, but the answer I\u2019ll give you is the same one they received: The rumor about watermelon and beer being dangerous if combined is 100 percent false. Of course, that\u2019s assuming you\u2019re consuming both in moderation. If you down too much watermelon or drink too many beers, you might feel some ill effects, but it won\u2019t be from the combination of the two ingredients.<\/p>\n<p>So if the misguided advice is nothing but urban legend, the real question is: Who started the tall tale? Unfortunately I wasn\u2019t able to pinpoint that answer, but my guess is that it\u2019s the same person who spread the rumor about watermelon seeds growing in your stomach if you swallow them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KELLY A.
