I mentioned this earlier in the month, but I\u2019m excited to announce it officially: The National Watermelon Promotion Board\u2019s Third Annual Watermelon Contest has begun!<\/p>\n
Right up front, I\u2019ll mention that this year\u2019s contest features MUCH better prizes than previous carving contests \u2013 they total over $1,300 in value, to be exact.\u00a0 Here\u2019s how it works:<\/p>\n
Carve a watermelon between now and August 4 and send a picture of the carving AND a picture of you posing with the carving to jslice@whataboutwatermelon.com. You can carve anything you\u2019d like, including the carvings on the National Watermelon Promotion Board website. On August 4, a special panel of judges will choose three finalists in each of these five categories:<\/p>\n
1. MOST ORIGINAL \u2013 <\/strong>Your original watermelon art may be meant for a special occasion, season or holiday. Christmas in July, anyone?<\/p>\n 2. FUNNIEST <\/strong>\u2013 We\u2019ve all seen hilarious takes on food, so show us your humor! Comical staging counts, so make us LOL!<\/p>\n 3. MOST ELEGANT <\/strong>\u2013 Culinary professionals and highly skilled food artists can knock our socks off. Show us how the experts do it.<\/p>\n 4. BEST JACK-O\u2019-MELON <\/strong>\u2013 Save a pumpkin \u2013 carve a watermelon jack-o-lantern! The insides will be much tastier, too.<\/p>\n 5. BEST WATERMELON.ORG CARVING \u2013 <\/strong>Any of the carving ideas and instructions found online at Watermelon.org<\/strong> are eligible. If you can follow a recipe, you can make a carving!<\/p>\n Amazon.com gift cards will be awarded for first ($100), second ($50) and third place ($25) in EACH category. In addition, all finalists will compete online for public votes to determine the \u201cFan Favorite,\u201d which will win an awesome $500 grand prize.<\/p>\n If you have any questions, let me know, and don\u2019t forget to check out the official contest rules below.
