Of course, I\u2019m talking about my first entry in an official watermelon seed spitting contest.<\/p>\n<p>The contest, which I also have a hand in organizing, will take place at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cumberlandagexpo.com\/\">Cumberland Ag Expo<\/a> on September 5-7. Visitors to the expo will be able to visit the seed spitting contest booth between the hours of 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on each of the three days to give it their best shot. The longest distance in each of our four categories \u2013 men, women, youth, and children \u2013 will win a shiny first place medal and a gift certificate from the contest sponsor (a local ice cream shop).<\/p>\n<p>I plan to compete on the final day, toward the end of the time period, just so I know what my goal distance is. All I need to decide now is what to wear (something athletic to go with my pre-spitting stretching routine would probably be good) and whether I\u2019ll stick around to sign autographs after I win (yes).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are only a few weeks left until the big day.
