JUNE PRIZE: THE DEXAS WATERMELON KNIFE AND CUTTING BOARD

A few weeks ago, a package addressed to “The Watermelon Guy” arrived in the mail. I wasn’t expecting a package and had never received one addressed to my watermelon-loving alter ego. I was curious and excited.

The relatively light weight of the box ruled out the hope that it contained a watermelon, but what was inside was, in some ways, even better. What awaited me were two watermelon-themed cutting boards and two watermelon-carving knives. An accompanying letter explained the gift.

Apparently, a gentleman from Dexas, a company that makes all sorts of neat kitchen items (check them out on Facebook), was staffing a trade show booth adjacent to my friends at the National Watermelon Promotion Board. They told him about my love of watermelon and he decided to send me two sets of Dexas’ watermelon accessories – one for me to try out, and one for me to give away here on the blog.

So that’s exactly what I’m doing. One commenter chosen at random from all the comments left on the blog this month will receive the cutting board and knife shown above (sorry, watermelon not included). The cutting board measures 17×12 inches and has a hole at the top so you can hang it on the wall. The 11-inch knife has a soft-grip contoured handle and a hard plastic sheath for storage. I’ve used mine already, and let me tell you, it’s pretty amazing.

It’s a giveaway that will come in very handy for one lucky reader among you, because I’ll be kicking off a watermelon carving contest later this month. Stay tuned for that announcement!

  • Wow this is one of the most funnest ways I’ve learned to carve a watermelon and really can’t figure out why I never thought to have fun with it like this before given I have ways been creative and artistic when it comes to holiday and seasonal types of food i become almost OCD like when it starts out to be for the fun of it becomes more like some kind of an artistic project never ending from
TryinA be a perfectionist and to my kids projects arent all that much fun!!!!!Watermelon has always been my most favorite summer time fruits to eat but I never looked forward to cutting it… I dread it so much that I’ve actually let watermelon go bad just to avoid having to carve it cause I never had the right knife set until just recently I finally invested in an entire knife set but I wasn’t sure which knife to use as silly as it sounds I figured I could just google it to figure it out and that’s when I stumbled upon your site not only to figure out my knife answer but also discovered watermellon shark and it inspired me to try it out immedietly!!!! It was very simple and didn’t really take long at all but most of all very creative and fun…. I have two young daughter between ages 5-8 and to see the excitement on their faces made it that much more worth it. Even my husband was like wow Jenn that’s the most amazing watermellon carving I’ve ever seen going on and on about how creative and talented I am asking where I come up with these ideas but to go on about what a great mom I am and how I always have that special touch so as I was trying to cut in and let him know exactly where I got this idea from I suddenly became hesitant silencing myself as he went on about how great I was and flowering me with wonderfull compliments I admit it was very hard to resist myself from taking all the credit but wasn’t completly decided until he told me what a good mom I was at that point I forgot the idea thankfully came from reading your step by step instructions bring me such beautiful compliments and touched by all the attention I was quickly surrounded by I couldn’t help but melt at the words expressed to me as my efforts of being best mom I can be really and truly made me feel appreciated ….im sorry i took the credit in a way by not speaking up… I’m a weak person!!!!!! So i do owe you one big compliment and so thank you for sharing your ideas but also know how one simple and fun idea that you shared brought so much more to an entire family….it’s things like this that matter most like the littlest things in life that are most important because it brings smiles to children’s faces and creates a world of imagination but also memories for more time and reasons we give our children to spend as a family that was brought together and as new traditions are formed-past down to the next that all developed from the gift of ones idea and thank you for sharing your gift with me as your gift was passed down to be a the best gift of all cause your gift to me will last forever thank you again for bringing new joy into my children’s lives :) and for making these financially tough times a reason to keep living a life worth loving since its the best things in life that are free and it’s people like you who continue to remind me of the more simple things in life that keep
The love going and helps family like mine to grow strong….I know how corny i must sound but you have no idea of what stuff like this does for my family cause it really is the only thing we have at this point just to make the best out of life during our struggling times and learn as many new things possible and making the most fun out of it….it keeps our family close and strong thank you again!!!!!

  • I have the knife, but serving watermelon would be more festive with the cutting board. I looked at the Dexas website and they have some kitchen gadgets.

  • Well this is a Super-Cute cutting board and would make a nice addition to mine or anyone else’s kitchen that loves WATERMELON!I know i love it and am glad to see them coming back into the stores now.

  • That is a pretty nice looking cutting board, I would love to be able to have something like that to use for a food show or demo some time.

  • Neat prize! Nice looking board and knife – i could carve lots of watermelon with it!!!

  • I love the fact that the envelope was addressed to “The Watermelon Guy”. I chuckled to myself because that is what our neighbors & friends lovingly call my husband. We always show up at the BBQs with watermelon in tow. He carves fun shapes, each unique and different for the kids, and he always brings an adult only watermelon. His adult recipes are always evolving. It’s like everyone’s waiting to see..what’s next?
Love your page..Happy Summer to all!

  • Cool. This would make an awesome display tray for the watermelon cupcakes I plan on making for the McDade Watermelon Festival. The cupcakes on your site are exactly what I was seeking. Just found your site and love it. I will return!

  • I LOVE both the knife and the cutting board. What a great idea! It would make a nice addition to my watermelon collection and they would travel with me to all of my summer bar-b-ques! I am asked to bring a watermelon to all festivities because I carve unique creations. Pick me! Thank you!

  • That’s a darn pretty set. I would love to have that and flaunt it in my friends faces (not really, but I bet they would be jealous.)
