ASK THE EXPERTS: WHERE CAN I FIND WATERMELON WITH SEEDS?

MATTHEW L. OF INDIANAPOLIS, IN ASKS: Where can I get seeded watermelon? I would like to have them shipped to me or I’ll pick them up.

I hear you loud and clear, Matthew. It seems like all you can find these days are seedless watermelons, but every now and then, for old time’s sake, it would be nice to have one with seeds, right?

While the seedless and mini varieties have taken over in popularity and demand, there certainly are still many folks who grow and sell the seeded watermelons, oblong in shape, chock full of black seeds. I get a lot of comments from people who remember the long, sweet watermelons of their youth and do not think that the seedless varieties are as good, but there is no science that supports the notion that a seeded watermelon is sweeter than a seedless.

If you really have a yearning for seeded watermelons, there are two things you can do: 1) check your local farmers’ markets and 2) talk to your local produce manager at your grocery store. He can take the request up to the store’s buyers. If a buyer believes that his customers will buy a seeded watermelon, he’ll be more apt to supply for the store. If he won’t stock seeded watermelon (which isn’t likely), ask him if he knows where you might find some.

Hope this helps,

  • Regarding your tip about asking our Health Food store managers to order SEEDED WATERMELONS, I think there is a conspiracy + people are too busy.
I am a full-fledged European, & I never heard about Seedless Grapes, or Watermelons in Europe
Although I have been in this country since 1967, age 17.
Last time I was in Paris where I spent 4 yrs. was from 1992-96
ALL the fruits had their seeds in them.
Seedless Watermelons are actually sweeter + also taste like cardboard…IT IS SUCH a SHAME how AMERICANS are Genetically altered themselves, that they cannot think for themselves, that something like this will pass them by.
Seedless Oranges, make me sick literally I have Fibromyalgia, but am curing it with fruits + veggies with seeds.
My system is so sensitive, I can tell that something is deleterious on the first try.
I have noticed a few times that when I used a seedless Lemon, and then threw the rind in a plastic bag, just covered the bag, the next day it was all moldy.

  • Please let me know where i can fine dry watermelon seed in Toronto.Ontario.Bulk barn and Metro does not have that also.

  • I'm so sick of these people altering the food, I for one prefer not to eat GMO products! What the hell is going on people too lazy to pick out the seeds??? I would rather starve to death then to eat the bullshit that that they have been genetically modifying!!

  • I also have been trying to find seeded watermelons. They are a bit sweeter than seedless. I find the seedless on the bland side. I don't like organic food. I like what I had years ago. I try to find someone to grow them, but some say there not enough time in the season. We have the same growing time as we had in the past years. The weather might differ. I wish I had one now. I could eat it every day, it's better than sweets and better for you.
