The not-so-scary “jack-o’-melon” above was carved by yours truly and sits proudly on the front doorstep of our house. I’m crossing my fingers that the neighborhood hooligans don’t smash it to bits on the sidewalk before the night is through, but you can never be too sure.
I thought about dressing up as a scarecrow and sitting next to it all night, ready to scare the living daylights out of anyone who dared to mess with my watermelon carving. Once again, my much wiser wife talked me out of that plan. It’s a bummer, too, because the hidden camera video would have been hilarious.
