It almost happened. I almost forgot that today was National Watermelon Day. Can you believe that? Me, the self-proclaimed Watermelon Guy, nearly forgot about the biggest day of the year for watermelon lovers. But I didn’t forget, and I’d like to take this time to wish everyone a very happy National Watermelon Day!
To celebrate, I invite everyone to leave a comment on this entry with the three words you think best describes watermelon. You can use words that describe it physically (red, juicy, round) or words to describe how it makes you feel (happy!). It’s entirely up to you. I’ll take all of the words submitted in the comments and put them together in some sort of fun collection to be posted in an entry in the near future.
I also recommend celebrating this glorious day by enjoying some watermelon, but I challenge you to step outside your watermelon comfort zone a little bit. In other words, if you normally enjoy watermelon by the wedge, try blending it into a smoothie. If you’re more of a watermelon cubes kind of person, try grilling it and putting it on top of a burger. If you need some outside-your-comfort-zone ideas, check out the recipes on the National Watermelon Promotion Board website.
By the way, I’ve chosen the four winners of our weekly National Watermelon Month prizes and contacted them with the good news. As soon as I hear back from them, I’ll post their names here on the blog!
