SERVING UP WATERMELON AT CAMP BLOGAWAY

Every now and then I’ll give my keyboard a rest and share the joys of blog writing with my friends at the National Watermelon Promotion Board. Today’s entry is one of those entries.

Watermelon.org is very excited to be a co-sponsor of the annual “Camp Blogaway: The Original Bootcamp for Food & Recipe Bloggers” at the end of April. We’ve cannonballed into the deep end of the social media swimming pool, and we’re hoping to make some waves with influential food and recipe folks online. Just because we NWPB staffers know that watermelon is considered both a fruit and a vegetable doesn’t mean the rest of the blogosphere does!

Camp Blogaway really is like a weekend camping trip in the woods for attendees, but the activities and topics will include skills for bloggers, educational seminars about different foods, and healthy nutritional breaks for refreshment. We here at the Watermelon Board have a lot to lend when educating about watermelon, not just presenting on watermelon’s healthy benefits and fun recipes, but also tips on food styling and photography, factoids and fun “did you know” tidbits, as well as the history, relevance, and impact that watermelon has had on American society.

From what we’ve seen and heard from the past campers’ blogs and photos, it looks to be a roaring good time in a very informal atmosphere; a couple of fun days at camp spent with a lot of people who all have something in common – a passion for food.

We’re looking forward to meeting you, too! I won’t be there, but some members of the National Watermelon Promotion Board will be. I’ll pass your message along to them.
