I’ve featured the watermelon carvings of Chef Joe Poon (that’s him above) in the past here on What About Watermelon. To put it bluntly, the man can do things with a knife and a watermelon that are simply amazing. You can call him the “Picasso of Produce” or maybe the “Warhol of Watermelon.” Or just call him Chef Joe. He’ll answer to that, too.
In Chinese astrology, 2012 is the Year of the Dragon. To celebrate this year, Chef Poon carved a dragon into the flesh of a watermelon and another one into the rind of a watermelon. I’d take some time to say how awesome they are, but I think that goes without saying.
Chef Joe had this to say about the Year of the Dragon:
In Chinese culture the Dragon is said to be a deliverer of good fortune and a master of authority. The dragon is a symbol of power. Those born in Dragon years are to be honored and respected. In China, a blessing for a child may be that “they have much success and money and be as powerful as the dragon!”
