JULY PRIZE: WATERMELON FOR YOUR FEET!

July 6th, 2010 by The Watermelon Guy

I was going to give away the awesome Adidas shoes below (created in watermelon colors as a special World Cup edition) as this month’s prize, but I couldn’t find them for sale anywhere online. Frustrating, I know. They would have made a great prize and a great addition to my own shoe collection.

So I decided to give away a pair of the super-cool Vans watermelon shoes seen below (available in Vans’ iconic Chukka, Era and Slip-on styles). But alas, I could not find them either. Really, I tried. I pride myself on my stellar web-searching skills, but I was stumped. If anyone finds the Adidas or Vans shoes for sale, let me know!

Determined to find something watermelon-related in footwear, I finally discovered the watermelon socks pictured below. Technically they’re women’s “cycling/running socks” but I’m guessing you could wear them around the house or any old time. I’ll choose one comment from all the comments left here on What About Watermelon in July to receive this cozy prize. Actually, make that TWO comments. What the heck… it’s National Watermelon Month.

JUNE PRIZE: THE WATERMELON CHARM

June 1st, 2010 by The Watermelon Guy

I’m always losing my keys, and I’m not just talking about misplacing my keys. I have literally LOST my keys on more than one occasion. It’s a lot like losing your wallet, only instead of freaking out that someone is maxing out your credit card while you scramble to cancel it, you freak out because you can’t drive your car or get into your house.

Which brings me to this month’s prize. Watermelon is the key to my heart, and now watermelon can hold the keys to your home for just one comment. That’s right. This beautiful sterling silver charm can be yours for just a few words. TWO lucky winners chosen at random will have the most charming keys on the block.

FEATURED PRODUCT AND PRIZE: WATERMELON KITCHEN SCRUBBER

May 11th, 2010 by The Watermelon Guy

If things go horribly wrong in your attempts to make last week’s watermelon steak, you can clean up the mess with this month’s featured product and prize, the watermelon kitchen scrubber. It’s made from natural loofah, which is harvested by from ancient loofah trees found only in the northern mountainous region of China. Amazon.com claims that this little wonder “will make your kids actually want to help you do the dishes!” I doubt that’s true, but for $4.99 it’s worth a shot, right?

I’ll send two of these miracle workers to one commenter chosen at random from all the comments left on What About Watermelon this month. Good luck!

FEATURED PRODUCT: ORGANIC WATERMELON JUICE

March 2nd, 2010 by The Watermelon Guy

juiceThis month’s prize, which I’ll give away to one comment chosen at random from all the comments left on the blog in March, is the 100 percent organic watermelon juice pictured on the right. I haven’t tried this juice, but I do know that the juice is one of my favorite parts of eating watermelon, so this could be pretty good.

According to the website where it’s sold, this one liter bottle of heaven is made from “100% pure pressed watermelon.”

So, what can you do with a bottle of watermelon juice? I guess you could pour yourself a tall glass and drink it on a hot summer day. That’s the first thing that comes to mind. You could also use it to make watermelon juice ice cubes (though you could do that with pureed watermelon, too). You can also use watermelon juice in recipes. It’s really up to you!

By the way, the winner of our February prize — the watermelon growing kit — is Courtney. Congrats Courtney, and thanks to everyone who left a comment last month. Keep ‘em coming!

FEATURED PRODUCT: THE WATERMELON BIRD FEEDER

November 2nd, 2009 by The Watermelon Guy

bird feederI know it’s not exactly “bird feeder weather” (at least not in the northeast), but when I found this month’s prize – the watermelon bird feeder – I couldn’t wait until spring to post it. I mean, what bird wouldn’t want to grab a snack out of a hollowed out watermelon (even a fake one)?

I’ll choose one comment from all the comments left on What About Watermelon to receive this prize. It might make a good Christmas gift for the watermelon and/or bird lover in your life. Or you can just keep it for yourself. I wouldn’t blame you if you did.

OCTOBER PRIZE: THE WATERMELON CAT FIGURINE

October 5th, 2009 by The Watermelon Guy

cat

I spent a lot of time searching for this month’s featured product and prize, probably more time than I should have. There’s A LOT of watermelon stuff out there for the kitchen, but not a lot for the rest of the house. Regardless, I was able to finally find something worthy of being named our October What About Watermelon prize.

Watermelon-costumeNo, it’s not the outfit on the right (more about that later), it’s a watermelon cat figurine! Pictured below, this little guy stands three inches tall and is made of stone resin, which I guess makes it really heavy because the shipping weight is three pounds. You can put him wherever you want. On your desk at work, on a book shelf, or even peeking out from behind the coffee maker in the kitchen.

I’ll choose one comment at random from all the comments on the blog this month to receive this little guy. Good luck!

By the way, if you’re going to a Halloween party this year and can’t decide what costume to wear, might I suggest going as a giant slice of watermelon? For only 50 bucks, you can buy the costume on the right and be the life of the party. If anyone asks what you’re supposed to be (as if it’s not painfully obvious), you can tell them you’re the fifth member of the Fruit of the Loom gang. Without clicking on the previous link, can anyone name the other four members of the Fruit of the Loom bunch?

SEPTEMBER PRIZE: THE WATERMELON CANISTER SET

September 14th, 2009 by The Watermelon Guy

Congrats to Leslie M., for winning our August prize (the watermelon flash drive). I’m sure she can put it to good use and make her friends jealous at the same time.

For our September prize, I went from the computer to the kitchen and choose the set of three ceramic canisters shaped like everyone’s favorite fruit. The canisters stand about eight inches tall and, as Amazon.com points out, are perfect for “cookies, crackers, noodles, flour, sugar, candy… whatever you want!” You might able to store watermelon in your watermelon canisters, but you’d probably be better off keeping it in sealed containers.

I’ll choose one comment at random from all the comments left here on What About Watermelon during the month of September to receive this prize. Good luck!

FEATURED PRODUCT AND MAY PRIZE: THE WATERMELON FRAMED TILE

May 15th, 2009 by The Watermelon Guy

watermelon-tileEach month here on What About Watermelon, we’ll feature one watermelon-themed product and give it away to one commenter chosen at random from all of the entries that month. This month’s prize and cool watermelon product is a framed watermelon tile. ($24.99 on Amazon.com in case you don’t want to wait to see if you win it.)

They say you should always have at least one red object in every room to add a little color to things, and this 8-by-8 inch tile will do the trick. It comes all ready to be hung on the wall, but I guess you could also use it as a trivet. For any guys reading this, a trivet is also known as “that thing you put hot pots and pans on.” Using this is probably a lot better than using a magazine or a book… or nothing at all.
